Its plains, acacia woodland, rivers and rocky kopjes support exceptional wildlife. UNESCO recognises the area for its ecological processes and the annual movement of vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle.

The Great Migration has no fixed date

The herds follow rainfall and fresh grazing. As a broad guide, the southern plains attract concentrations and calving early in the year; in subsequent months animals move through the western corridor and towards the north. River crossings depend on unpredictable decisions by the herds and can never be promised on a particular day.

We select accommodation according to your dates and avoid building an entire trip around one possible scene. Serengeti also offers excellent resident wildlife throughout the year.

Which Serengeti area should you choose?

Seronera and central Serengeti: a strategic location, resident wildlife and useful connections.

Southern plains and Ndutu: seasonal grasslands that are especially important during the calving period.

Western corridor: rivers, woodland and migratory movement during particular months.

Northern Serengeti: a more remote landscape and access to areas near the Mara River.

Distances are substantial. Staying in the right area is normally more valuable than trying to cross the park every day.

How many days do you need?

We recommend at least three nights for a first visit. Additional time allows a slower pace and more flexibility around wildlife movements. A short safari can concentrate on the central area, while a migration-focused itinerary needs careful planning and may require internal flights or extra driving stages.

Combining Serengeti with other parks

The classic northern circuit combines Serengeti with the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Tarangire National Park. Depending on the season and travel style, Lake Victoria, Maswa or a few days in Zanzibar may also fit the journey.

Responsible wildlife viewing

We maintain a safe distance, never block animals, stay on authorised tracks and reduce waste. Binoculars let you enjoy behaviour without pressuring the driver to approach too closely. Well-positioned accommodation also reduces unnecessary mileage.

A safari designed for your dates

We do not offer the same route all year. The area, number of nights and transfers are adapted to the month and to your priorities, whether photography, wildlife, family pace or a combination with mountains and coast. Request a private Tanzania itinerary.

Serengeti National Park lies at the heart of one of Africa’s great savannah ecosystems.
