5-Day Piaya Walk: Route 2

Ruta 2 de senderismo en Piaya, trekking en Tanzania

This five-day Piaya to Lake Natron walking itinerary is a planning example. Stages, camps, permissions, water and vehicle access must be confirmed for the actual dates. Historic prices are not current quotations.

Day 1: Ngorongoro area to Piaya

Travel towards Piaya with a realistic schedule based on road conditions. A Ngorongoro Crater safari can only be included if gate times and driving hours allow it safely.

Day 2: Piaya to Sanjan

Begin the supported trek across open landscapes, with views towards Ol Doinyo Lengai. A vehicle carries the main luggage when access permits. Overnight at an authorised campsite.

Day 3: Sanjan to Mosonik

Continue with a local guide through pastoral landscapes. Wildlife sightings are possible but never guaranteed. A vehicle-supported shorter stage may be arranged in advance.

Day 4: Mosonik to Lake Natron

Complete the final walking stage or use the support vehicle. Any waterfall, spring or community activity depends on current access and local consent. A Maasai visit is arranged respectfully; homes, ceremonies and dances are never guaranteed performances.

Day 5: Lake Natron, Engaruka and Arusha

Return towards Arusha, with an Engaruka stop only if timing and access are suitable.

Price and inclusions

Price depends on group size, season, permits, camps, staff and transport. A written quotation specifies accommodation, meals, guides, driver, cook, park or conservation fees and support. International flights, visa, insurance, personal expenses, optional activities and tips are normally excluded unless stated.

Preparation

Bring broken-in boots, layered clothing, rain protection, sun protection, water capacity and personal medication. Follow the guide, use authorised paths and ensure insurance covers trekking and evacuation.

Compare route 1, read the Piaya guide and ask for current availability.
