This four-day Engaruka trek links the Rift Valley landscape with Kerimasi and Lake Natron. It combines several hours of walking, vehicle transfers and locally agreed cultural activities. Exact routes, camps and timings must be confirmed because tracks, weather and access change.
Day 1: Arusha or Mto wa Mbu to Engaruka
Travel to Engaruka, review the route with the guide and prepare equipment. If time permits, a properly arranged Mto wa Mbu visit may introduce farming, irrigation and local enterprise before the transfer.
Day 2: Engaruka to Kerimasi
Walk for roughly four and a half hours, depending on pace and conditions. Views may include Kerimasi, Ol Doinyo Lengai and Rift Valley volcanic terrain. Overnight arrangements are confirmed for the particular departure.
Day 3: Kerimasi to Lake Natron
Continue on foot towards Lake Natron, meeting a vehicle around lunchtime for the final section. Any community encounter must be based on consent and local coordination rather than an automatic staged performance.
Day 4: Lake Natron and return
An early lake visit or authorised local activity may be possible before returning towards Arusha. Weather, water levels and road conditions determine the final programme.
